Spring Board

Spring Board

I am so excited to be involved in my friend Andrea’s first guest post series, Spring Board Creative Collaboration. Andrea is the talented lady behind Knitty Bitties, the shop and the blog.  I adore everything she creates, so when I received her email inviting me to participate and explaining what it was all about, I was absolutely giddy.  Here’s how it works-Andrea sent out the exact same supplies: 2 fat quarters, a strip of ric-rac, a square of un-bleached cotton, and a doily, to seven different creative ladies.  The only instructions she supplied were that we were to create something primarily from these items, blog about it AND give it away to one lucky reader.  Isn’t that fun!! Jodi at the Fabric Shoppe sponsored the event and sent us our goods.

Spring Board

I knew right away my project would not involve my sewing machine, and would definitely include a bit of vintage and a bit of thrifted goodness.  When I spotted a 12×12 square canvas that I had leftover from another project I knew just what I wanted to create.  Using my handy dandy staple gun and the 2 fat quarters, I covered the canvas with the pink fabric and then added a layer of green on top. I left the exposed edge raw and pulled a few threads from it to give the illusion of grass.  I created tulip flowers by cutting the un-bleached cotton into squares with rounded edges, folding them in half twice, each time adding a drop of glue at the fold.  The larger flower is just four of my tulips with a button in the center.  The stems are from a measuring tape I found at the thrift store and hot glued in place.  Then it was time for a touch of vintage.

I cut out three butterflies from a vintage children’s song book I had found at the thrift store.  I hot glued them to the canvas, and used a bit of twine to create their body & antennae. The last thing I did was add the doily to the corner and a little twine around the bottom. So there you have it.  My little contribution to this creative week. Now for the good part.  If you’d like to win this happy wall hanging for yourself, simply leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite
part of Spring is. The giveaway will remain open through April 18.

Be sure to stop by Andrea’s blog all week for more creative collaborations. P.S.  Larissa from MMMCrafts is going to be up tomorrow. I can’t wait to see what she created!!
